Clear Books MTD for Income Tax
HMRC-recognised MTD for Income Tax software. Quarterly updates and year-end submissions, all in one place
Clear Books MTD: from quarterly updates to year-end submission
Making Tax Digital for Income Tax is here. Since April 2026, sole traders and landlords with qualifying income over £50,000 have had to keep digital records and send quarterly updates to HMRC. The threshold falls to £30,000 in April 2027 and to £20,000 by April 2028. Clear Books takes you through the whole cycle in one place.
Clear Books is on HMRC's official list of MTD-compatible software for both VAT and Income Tax Self Assessment.
Digital records that keep themselves up to date:
• Connect your bank to import transactions and categorise them automatically
• Scan bills and receipts from photos and PDFs
• Create and email invoices from the same place
Quarterly updates made simple: four times a year, Clear Books walks you through your quarterly update step by step. It usually takes under 10 minutes, and a live deadline tracker on your dashboard shows what's due next.
Year end, handled: at the end of the year, Clear Books prepares your final declaration and you file your year-end tax return to HMRC directly from the software.
Plans for every type of income:
• Sole Trader, with business reporting including a balance sheet
• Property, which records and tracks the profitability of multiple properties for landlords
• Foreign Property, for overseas lettings
• Sole Trader Plus, which adds MTD VAT reporting, the Flat Rate Scheme and the VAT Domestic Reverse Charge
Built to work with your accountant: every plan includes unlimited users and accountant tools, including journals, lock date ranges and an audit log. Your accountant can review your records before anything goes to HMRC.
MTD for Income Tax plans start from £5 a month.
